Reading bonus and wagering terms before you accept
Sign-up and top-up bonuses are marketing, not free money. The value is in the conditions attached to them, and those conditions are where most disappointment comes from.
Wagering requirements
A requirement such as 20x means the bonus must be staked twenty times before any related balance can be withdrawn. Because each stake carries the house margin, a high multiplier usually means the bonus is unlikely to convert into withdrawable money.
Clauses that quietly matter
- Game weighting — some games contribute far less than 100% toward the requirement.
- Maximum bet while a bonus is active; breaching it can void the bonus.
- Expiry windows, often measured in days or hours.
- Maximum cash-out from bonus winnings.
- Whether a deposit becomes locked once a bonus is accepted.
How to evaluate an offer in one minute
Find the wagering multiplier, the expiry, and the maximum cash-out. If any of the three is missing from the published terms, treat the offer as unquantifiable and decline it. You can almost always decline a bonus and keep your deposit unrestricted.
