Account security basics for gaming platforms
Gaming accounts hold money and identity documents, which makes them worth attacking. These are the basics that actually reduce risk.
Passwords
- Use a password that exists nowhere else, ideally generated by a password manager.
- Length beats complexity — a long passphrase is stronger than a short scramble.
- Never reuse the password from your email account, which is the key to everything else.
One-time codes
An OTP is only ever entered on a screen you opened yourself. Nobody legitimate — support, an agent, a friend — needs your code. A request for an OTP is a request to take over your account, without exception.
Device hygiene
- Keep the operating system updated.
- Review app permissions and remove anything a game does not need.
- Avoid installing files from group chats or shortened links.
- Do not log in on shared or public devices.
After a suspected compromise
Change the password from a device you trust, revoke active sessions where the platform allows it, secure your email and phone accounts first, then contact the platform's own support channel through the address on the site you normally use.
